Next June 5th is celebrated the World Environment Day. Reciclajes y Metales Pérez give all our support and contribute to the protection of the planet
To keep global warming below 1.5 °C this century, we must reduce by half the annual emissions of greenhouse gases by 2030. So warns the United Nations.
If we do not act now, exposure to polluted air will increase by 50% in this decade, while plastic waste flowing into aquatic ecosystems could triple by 2040. But these will not be the only consequences. Many more will follow, he says.
Every year, more than 400 million tons of plastic are produced worldwide, of which less than 10% is recycled.
It is estimated that between 19 and 23 million tons of plastic waste end up in lakes, rivers and seas every year. That is equivalent to the weight of about 2,200 Eiffel Towers combined.
Microplastics (plastic particles with a diameter of less than 5 mm) also invade food, water and even the air.
It is estimated that people ingest more than 50,000 plastic particles every year and that these contaminate all types of ecosystems, from mountain peaks to the seabed.
With all these data it seems more than evident the celebration of the World Environment Day. As we say in Reciclajes y Metales Pérez: “Recycling we all win”.
